Q: How can I benefit from Personal
Training?
A: The Personal Training Program offers a
variety of services. We can help you learn fun and safe techniques
to incorporate into your exercise routine. Or, if you are
longing for that personalized workout plan that will help
you reach your fitness goals, then you have visited the right
website! Engaging in a routine exercise program consisting
of cardiovascular and strength training will increase your
overall health!
Q:How do I sign up for
Personal Training?
A: Since you are already on this website,
you can submit your name and contact information on the main
page. You may also call the Personal Training office at (607)
274-7020 and leave your name, number, and email. At the fitness
center, there is a blue box atop the counter immediately after
the turnstile. Fill out the form with your contact information.
It is simple, so sign-up today!
Q:Where is the Personal Training
Office located?
A: The Personal Training office is located
on the lower level of the fitness center. Upon entering the
fitness center, pass through the turnstile after swiping your
card, and make a right to go down the stairs. Make another
right and the personal training office will be on your right,
across from the Mondo floor gym.
Q:What happens at the initial
meeting?
A: It is important to meet with the coordinator
in order to fill out the necessary paperwork to participate
in the Personal Training Program. At this meeting, be prepared
to list your availability for the semester and fill out a
Medical/Health history form. If you plan to purchase a package,
be prepared to pay at this time. We accept cash or check.
If you are uncertain as to which service you would like to
take advantage of, we will discuss all options!
Q:What if I am not sure if I
will like working with a trainer?
A: This is quite common. Give the FREE introductory
session a try! You have nothing to lose.
Q: I have been told I need medical
clearance. What is that?
A: Based on the standards of the American
College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), we require anyone with
more than 3 risk factors to seek medical clearance before
commencing an exercise program. Risk factors include, but
are not limited to, family history of heart disease, age,
obesity, smoking, and previous injury. Do not be discouraged!
The purpose of medical clearance is to ensure your safety.
The largest risk to exercising is not starting!
Q:Can I pick my trainer?
A: Yes! All the trainers have pictures and
brief bios posted on the website, along with on a bulletin
board in the main hallway at the fitness center. You have
the opportunity to select who you feel may be the most compatible
for you.
Q:Can I bring a friend?
A: Yes! If you have similar schedules and
similar interests regarding physical activity, this is a great
option for you! You may select from the 4, 7, or 10-session
option.
Q:What happens when I complete
a package?
A: Congratulations! You are on your way to
reaching your fitness goals. At this point, you may choose
to continue working out on your own, or continue to work with
a trainer. We offer great discounts for returning clients.
At this time it is possible to continue working with your
trainer or change it up a little bit and experience working
with someone else!
Q:Do you offer gift certificates?
A: Yes! The gift of health is perhaps one
of the best. Contact the Personal Training office today to
provide a friend or co-worker with a gift certificate. Available
for all packages.
Q:Will I get nutrition counseling
too?
A: It is possible to sign-up for FREE Nutrition
Counseling. We share the same office, but currently provide
different services. All exercise programs should be coupled
with good nutrition! You can contact a Nutrition Counselor
at (607) 274-7948 or nutrition@ithaca.edu.
Q:How do I become a trainer?

Application)
A: Preference is typically granted to exercise
science and physical therapy majors. However, we encourage
all to apply. Hiring typically occurs towards the end of the
semester, in order to provide adequate training and be ready
for the start of the new semester. However, we are always
accepting applications to keep on file. You may email your
application as an attachment to personaltraining@ithaca.edu
or drop it off at the fitness center in the Personal Training
mailbox.
